Tibetan butter lamp in white metal, also called dipa. The light is seen in Buddhism as a phenomenon that fills the entire universe in varying degrees. A butter lamp, the light is the symbol of the ultimate reality and is thus one of the most important offerings in Buddhist rituals. On a Buddhist altar at least one lamp is kept continuously burning.
